BOYS STATE!!!

We need drivers to take our awesome boys team to State this weekend at Kearns.  Blaine Edwards is arranging rides
Blain Edwards phone number is 590-2377

Boys State @ Kearns

We need drivers to take our awesome boys to State this weekend.  Blaine Edwards is arranging rides and rooms.  Please call him if you have room for riders.  Also, let Blaine know by Thursday at 10:00am if you would like a separate room for parents.  He can reserve them for you.  The cost of the tournament is $43.00. ALL MONEY, INCLUDING PAST DUE, MUST BE PAID ON THURSDAY.

SUMMER POLO CLUB

There is a Southern Utah Water Polo Club ("SUWP") beginning soon.  This is open to boys and girls.  This club is strictly to teach skills and do drills.  This Club will be held in the summer.  The purpose is two-fold; to help develop water polo in the St. George/Cedar City areas; and secondly, to help those who already play to develop better skills.  There will seldom be competitions or scrimmages.   When High School Water Polo/Swim begins, the Club will cease for that season and then restart in the summer again.  This is a great opportunity to recruit new members for our high school teams as well.  Everyone is welcome.

This Club will be taught by Jesse Katchel.  You may know Jesse as a referee of some of our high school games.  He also helped out the girls during one of our practices.  His motive is to build the sport in Southern Utah much like it is in Northern Utah.    He is offering to teach Monday 6:30pm (SUU POOL) in Cedar City and Wednesday 6:30pm in St. George.  (It is hoped that the Cedar players would be willing to attend St. George to help build their program, and get additional instruction time.  We could carpool!)  The fee would be $35 per month.  It is hoped that you would make it a priority, be committed and come regularly. All the kinks haven't been worked out, but we want to make you aware of this exciting opportunity.

If this is something you would like to possibly do, please contact Janet Clark and we will get a separate email  list going with information.  (cedarclark@yahoo.com)

Once again, we will travel to Kearns Oquirrh Park to play waterpolo!

FUN IN DELTA; ON TO TOOELE ALL-NIGHTER

Delta Fun...Kyler, Nash, Holden, Rollie, Kollin
We had a great time in Delta. Everyone played well.

One team that played against us had a player rolled for long nails after leaving his mark on one of our players; one team couldn't field a team of girls so they added boys to their team and then their boys proceeded to bite two of our girls.  Vampires in the water?

A special thanks to all those who drove: Dawn Hendrix, Rick Brown, Blaine Edwards, Laura Hyde, Mrs. Barney, and Richard Clark (I apologize if I missed anyone.)  Thanks to the Hall's for providing a delicious meal.

Now on to the upcoming weekend....THE JV TOOELE ALL-NIGHTER tournament.  This is the favorite for most JV players.   There is
no need for hotel rooms because the players bring cots and sleeping bags (and may I suggest earplugs) and sleep on the deck of the pool and the surrounding hallways.  The boys first game is Friday at 11:30 and the girls is at 2:00.  We are in need of drivers.  We will post the

Melissa winding up for a goal shot.

cost of this tournament (which will only be gas and tourney fee) as soon as we get the information.  The boys should leave at 6:30am and the girls by 9:00am

If you are able to drive, please contact Mr. Richard Clark at  mredialyze@yahoo.com.

Coach is willing to take cots in the back of his truck, but they must be to him at practice on Thursday.

FINAL DELTA TOURNAMENT PLANS

Some of you were concerned that the 2:00 departure time was not early enough, so I changed the time to 1:00.  Others were then concerned that this was too much time, or too early to leave.  So, in democratic fashion, I threw up my arms and now say.....LEAVE WHEN YOU WANT, just get there for the 5:30pm girls game or the 6:15pm boys game.  Drivers will ensure their riders know their plans.

We are staying at the Budget Inn (on Main St. next to McDonalds).  The players signed up today for rooms. The pool is West Millard Community Pool located at 201 E. 300 N. Delta.

Coach Coston Friend and fellow coach - Tom Hamilton

"Coach" Tom Hamilton, age 66, passed away suddenly in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his home in Sandy, Utah. Tom was born on November 23, 1946, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was the eldest child of James Monroe and Mary Shirley Conners Hamilton. Tom was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Blanche Alice.
Tom grew up in La Puente, California and graduated from La Puente High School in 1964.  He was an active member of his swim team and water polo clubs all throughout his high school career. It was a cherished memory that his water polo team was invited to participate at the 1964 Olympic Trials for the selection of the United States Team, where these 17-and 18-year old young men finished in third place. Following high school graduation, Tom began his college career by attending Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California for one year before enlisting into the Air Force, serving September, 1965 - January, 1969. Tom served almost two years at Pleiku Airbase in Vietnam and returned home safely in 1968. Upon returning from Vietnam he served one year at NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Tom remained in the Air Force Reserves until 1991.
Tom married Priscilla Lynn Hendley on August 23, 1969 in Southern Califonia. Tom continued his education after marrying Priscilla, taking them to the University of Montana, Missoula. In June of 1976, Tom graduated with Bachelors of Arts degrees in Botany and Zoology. One of the highlights of Tom's studies in Montana was a four-year study of the migratory and breeding habits of  Canada Geese on Flathead Lake.  Throughout his time in Montana, Tom worked at the United States Post Office as well. While in Montana, Tom and Priscilla were also converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple, on November 28, 1975. In 1976, the Hamilton family moved to Pocatello, Idaho for work. In 1984, Tom became the Post Master of the Delta, Utah Post Office. While living in Delta for the next 20 years, Tom developed age-group swimming and water polo programs. He was also the head coach of the Delta High School Swimming and Water Polo Team. He loved all of his swim team kids and talked about then fondly through the years.
In 2006, Tom and Priscilla sold their home in Delta, Utah and moved to Salt Lake City to be with their children and grandchildren. Tom retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 30 years of dedicated service, and was currently working for Salt Lake County Aging Services. Tom had a love of collecting rare stamps, coins and anything to do with swimming/water polo. He was actively involved with his children and grandchildren. Tom was also very involved with his church and held many different callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held the offices of  Elder, Seventy and High Priest. His favorite calling was the five years he and Priscilla served in the nursery of the Delta 6th Ward where the kids all called him "coach."
Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was our glue and our rock and will be greatly missed. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Priscilla.  Together they have 5 children:  Shawn, Kelly (Art) Jasso, Ethan (Tia) Hamilton, Brian (Lisa) Hamilton and Steven (Kory) Hamilton. He is also survived by 7 beautiful granddaughters, Madison (16), KayDee (15), Chelsea (13), Alexis (12), Whitney (6), Breann (4), Zoe (7 weeks) and 1 granddoggy - Danish.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4, at 11 am, in the Delta Utah Stake Center Chapel, 125 South White Sage Avenue. Viewing will be held Monday morning at the church, 9:30-10:40 am. Burial in the Delta City Cemetery.

Parents Meeting

Hi Parents & Players:

This weekend begins the start of a great water polo season.  We will have a Varsity tournament at SUU on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2 (see the attached schedule).  Even though it is a Varsity tournament, we hope all JV players will attend to watch and learn.  Only Varsity needs to dress for the game.  We are unable to play any player who has NOT registered with USA Water Polo.

PARENTS:  Coach would like to call a one hour meeting on
Tuesday, February 26 at 5:15pm at the pool in the Party Room (right behind the concessions).  During this meeting, we will be discussing parent volunteer needs for this weekend, arranging table training and other important items.

Just a reminder, fees are due at the first of each month.  The fee is $30 for the first player and $25 for a sibling.  Checks may be made payable to CEDAR WATER POLO.  All fees must be current for a player to play in a tournament.

PLAYERS:  You must trim your finger and toe nails very short and file them so that there aren't any jagged edges.  The officials will do a "nail check" prior to the first game.  This is to prevent any injury to yourself or others.  Also, no jewelry.

GIRLS:  You must have a white swim cap and a black swim cap to play.  (When we play with the dark polo caps, a dark swim cap is worn underneath, etc.)

Looking forward to seeing the parents on Tuesday at 5:15pm

Thanks,
Janet Clark
